iPod Touch - A Revolution
The iPod Touch was launched by Apple at an even called “The Beat Goes
On”, on 5th September 2007, adding up to the multi touch- graphical user
interface to the iPod line. It is the first product with a wireless
access to the iTunes store and to the Apple’s APP store for a direct
purchase and downloading on the device. As of September 2009 Apple INC
has sold 20 million Touch units.
The second-generation range of
these devices was available from 9th September 2008, launched at the
“Let’s Rock” keynote presentation. It features external volume controls,
a built – in speaker, built in Nike+, Bluetooth and a countered back.
The
third generation of this iPod touch was announced with new iPhone OS
3.1 ON 9TH September 2009. Available with a 32GB or 64GB flash memory;
it includes faster hardware and a slightly lower battery life, a voice
control, light sensor and bundled earphones with a remote microphone.

Touch hardware
– the shape is slim and rectangular with rounded
edges, with a glass touch screen. The display covers most of the top
surface. The display functions are similar to the multi
– touch
track pad like the Apple’s current line of laptops.
• Touch
software
– the home screen has a list of icons for the applications
like music, videos and photos. The features of touch are duplicating the
standard functions of the iPod Classic. Providing access to iTunes,
Safari, YouTube, calendar, clock, contacts and settings. The latest
models added features like Mail (access to POP/IMAP/SMTP e-mail), Maps,
stocks, notes and weather. All these features could be added to the
previous models as well with the purchase of a software upgrade. All of
these models are equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. the iPhone 2.0 update
was released for the purchase for Touch. This update allowed the iPod
1st generation users to get an access to the App store for downloading
applications. The iPhone 3.0 update was released for the purchase for
Touch. This allowed the devices to use new applications, unlocking the
Bluetooth functionality of the 2nd generation, enabling A2DP and PDP
applications, as well as file transfer to non Apple devices like
Bluetooth enabled mobile phones etc., using the software iBlueNova.
