Calendar Lady Shares Top Ten Promotional Tips

Posted in Industry News on Tue 12 May 2015

CalThere are so many different ways that businesses choose to promote themselves, promotional items being one of the most popular. Phil Clarke of Calendar Lady Promotions shares his top 10 promotional tips to help businesses promote themselves smarter.

By following these few simple tips you’ll be able to get even more out of your marketing budget.

1) Choose contrasting colours – You want your corporate details to really stand out, so don’t choose a black mug if your logo is dark blue. Contrast your colour choices and use a white background for a darker logo.

2) Be aware of your printable area – Use as much of your space as possible. Your products will look silly if you’re given a 60mm x 30mm print area and you only use 30mm x 15mm! At the end of the day, you’re paying for the space so use it to showcase your corporate details.

3) Try choosing a product that fits your artwork shape – Square or round logo shapes work great on Mugs and Key fobs, whereas logos that are just words look best on a Pen.

4) Always check your proof carefully – Look at it. Look at it again. Then get somebody else to look at it. There’s nothing worse than approving artwork to find that there was a number wrong that has been printed on every product. Read over the details, check that the logo is right and make sure that you’re happy with the overall look of the product.

5) Make sure that details are clear and readable – Pick a clear, simple font that is readable at any size print. The smaller the product, the more compact the text will become and you don’t want your products to come out as a blob of print!

6) Less is definitely more – Keep it simple. Don’t overload the product with a long list of slogans or list of services. Keep it down to a logo and contact details in your corporate colours.

7) Be aware of the materials – Make sure you understand what type of printing is best for the materials you have picked.

8) Choose a relevant product – Relevance to the seasons is a big hit with customers. e.g. Promotional Ice Scrapers in the winter and Branded Beach Balls in the summer.

9) Consistency – A running theme throughout your range of promotional products works really well and gives the customer a strong sense of brand identity.

10) Use all available sides – Some products have more than 1 printing area. If you only put your details on one side of the Shopping Bags, you lose 50% exposure. This goes for some Mugs, Torches, Highlighters and Desk Items as well. For desk pads that come in blocks, always advertise on the sides as well as every on page.
