Top 10 Tips on choosing Promotional Pens

Posted in Editors Column on Wed 26 Nov 2008

Since the early 1980s, Prodir has been producing and providing writing instruments as promotional products. Prodir manufactures exclusively in Switzerland and prides itself on its quality, creativity and reliability.

Rod Duncan has been with Prodir for sixteen years and is also well known as Chairman of trade association, Promota.

His top 10 tips on specifying promotional pens are:

1. Chose a quality product to reflect the image of your company or brand. Don’t try to promote a superior brand with an inferior product.

2. Select a pen with quality components, including ink, for real longevity. There’s nothing more annoying than a pen that breaks or runs out of ink after a few weeks use.

3. Sleek and sophisticated, solid and traditional or bright and modern – pens come in a range of styles. Select a design to match the image of your company or brand.

4 The product also has to appeal to the target market, so don’t forget to take the recipients’ tastes into account.

5 Resist novelty products as they generally don’t reflect the image of a company and can quickly become dated.

6 Don’t buy solely on price, but on quality with budget restraints.

7 Opt for a ball pen unless there is a valid reason for roller ball and fine line. Ball pens are ubiquitous … and don’t leak.

8. By choosing a product that is not generally available on the high street you will immediately differentiate your gift.

9. Select a product that has high-perceived value as again this reflects on company and brand image.

10. Choose a supplier that has extensive colour range as you can then use different colours for different brands within a group, but still maintain product cohesion.
